How We Pick

Every Outfitr page is built to one standard: a reader should be able to check any product claim against the Amazon listing it came from.

Where picks come from

We choose from Amazon's regular storefront. For each candidate we open the live listing and save a verbatim copy of its title, feature bullets, specification table, seller line, return terms and rating. That saved copy is the only source an article may use for product claims.

What a pick has to clear

  • Ratings with substance. Our default floor for a pick is a rating of about 4.3 out of 5 across at least a few hundred ratings. Any exception is disclosed on the page with the figures.
  • No inflation profiles. A near-perfect score from a handful of ratings is not evidence, and we pass on it.
  • No anonymous generics on thin ratings. An unbranded listing with few ratings is never a pick.
  • One page per product. A product is a pick in only one Outfitr guide.

What we will not write

  • Specifications, materials or measurements the listing does not state.
  • Claims to have worn or tested a product.
  • Prices or stock levels, which change too often to be accurate on a static page.
  • Marketing claims as fact. "Waterproof" or "breathable" is attributed to the listing that says it.

When a listing contradicts itself, for example a bullet and the specification table disagree, we show both statements and let you decide rather than guessing which one is right.

Two checks before publishing

Every release passes an automated rule check (affiliate tagging, links, structure, the rules above) and an independent accuracy review that compares every product claim with the saved listings and every factual claim in an explainer with its sources.

Corrections

Listings change after we publish. Each page shows the date its ratings were checked. If you find something that no longer matches the listing, the page will be corrected in the next update.
